This procedure is performed to alleviate the discomfort that can be caused by large breasts, by creating a smaller and at the same time more aesthetically pleasing breast.

A breast reduction traditionally requires the removal of excess skin and breast tissue through an incision around the areola; a vertical one, extending from the areola down to the fold, and at times an extension along the fold.

The surgery requires general anesthesia and a recovery period of about one week.

The patient usually returns home on the day of the surgery and recovery occurs outside of the hospital setting.
