Abdominoplasty, more commonly known as "Tummy Tuck" can be undertaken with one or several goals in mind.
Among these are: correction of skin redundancy, reduction of fatty accumulation on the abdomen, and reshaping the patient's waist-line and abdominal wall, to create a more harmonious balance of the body structure.
Abdominoplasties vary and the variation directly correlates to extent and condition of the relevant patient.
The basic technique involves the removal of skin and fat, together with flattening of the muscle wall through an incision at the lower portion of the abdomen in the supra pubic area.
Sometimes the patient's goals can be achieved by simple liposuction or a "mini-abdominoplasty". The later one is localized to the area below the umbilicus. It is most commonly performed under general anesthesia in a one-day surgery setting, with an expected recovery time frame of one week.
The "mini-abdominoplasty" has a shorter recovery and could be performed under local anesthesia and I.V. sedation.
At the time of your initial office consultation, Dr. Fusi will discuss is great detail the procedure, associated risks and postoperative recovery.
